The links between companies and the communities in which they work are vital and can be forged in many ways. At Canadian North we believe that our sponsorship activity in each community we serve is a crucial means for us to give back to those who support and work with the airline. Canadian North is approached daily by a myriad of worthy causes for sponsorship support. And while it is not possible to meet every request, we know that our selection criterion permit us to offer support to a broad and varied range of community events. We are Seriously Proud to have established a track record of sponsorships which translates into a benefit of a million and a half dollars annually throughout our service area.
A major charity which is backed by Canadian North is the Food First Foundation which benefits children across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. We also help with fundraising events for cancer such as Relay for Life and Run for our Lives, as well as for Alzheimers and Tourette's Syndrome.
On the Arts and Culture front we initiated the Canadian North quilters' project which you can read about in more detail in this edition of Up Here magazine. We also provide support for the Alianait Arts Festival; the End of the Road Music Festival; Folk on the Rocks and fiddling camps for kids; Northern Arts and Culture Centre; North of 60 Junior Idol and for the first time ever we brought the Calgary Opera to Iqaluit, Norman Wells and Yellowknife.
We also promote Sports and Recreation development through the Arctic Winter Games; the PlayFare Program; sports equipment drives; Champions for Children; fishing tournaments as well as the Canadian North Midnight Golf Classic.
Other community events which benefit from our participation include the Inuvik 50th Anniversary celebrations; the Nunavut Day celebrations; Spring Festivals across the North and Iqaluit's Toonik Tyme. We are also a regular sponsor for Girl Guides of Canada; Northern Youth Abroad; the Duke of Edinburgh program and the annual northern Santa Tour.
While each of these important community events could succeed without our contribution, we believe that our participation puts us in the communities we serve and adds vital financial support to many worthy causes. We hope that each of you will also catch the spirit of sponsorship in your own lives, either as donors or recipients.
Travel well.
