December 9, 2015 - Canadian North announces resumption of afternoon departures and codesharing on Ottawa - Iqaluit route

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 9, 2015 Canadian North is pleased to announce that on Monday, January 11, 2016, it will resume afternoon departures and codeshare flights with First Air on its Ottawa – Iqaluit route.

As a result of these changes, Canadian North customers will be able to choose between northbound morning or afternoon departure times from Ottawa, as well as corresponding southbound afternoon or evening departure times from Iqaluit, 7 days a week. These new, later departure times will increase the number of flight connections available to travellers passing through Iqaluit and Ottawa and will enable same-day business trips from Ottawa to Iqaluit.

Flights in the revised schedule are now available for booking through the normal channels – via canadiannorth.com, over the phone or through your travel agency. Affected Canadian North customers who booked their travel prior to this announcement will be re-accommodated on the flight closest to their existing flight times, however if preferred, customers may re-book onto the afternoon flight at no additional cost.

This change is the latest in a series of schedule improvements implemented in response to feedback from customers and stakeholders. On July 27, 2015, Canadian North launched its new flight schedule that included daily Boeing 737 service between Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay as well as a non-stop flights between Yellowknife and Inuvik on Mondays and Fridays. On November 2, 2015, additional codeshare flights were added between Kugluktuk and Cambridge Bay. Also that same week, Canadian North added additional flights between Cambridge Bay and the Eastern Kitikmeot communities of Gjoa Haven, Taloyoak and Kugaaruk.

“Canadian North entered into a codesharing agreement with clear goals in mind – to offer our customers a better flight schedule and enhanced service, while at the same time improving the sustainability of our operations across the north.” said Peter McCart, Canadian North’s Senior Vice-President of Scheduled Services. “Bringing back the afternoon departure option for our Ottawa-Iqaluit flight, allows our customers to make a same-day business trip to Iqaluit and additional connections are now possible to and from the Trans-Arctic as well as Central and Atlantic Canada.”

While the codeshare agreement has enabled more effective schedules and new operating efficiencies, Canadian North continues to compete for passenger and cargo business in all markets by offering independent pricing initiatives, flights and promotions. Canadian North customers can earn Aurora Rewards points and Aeroplan Miles on all flights booked through Canadian North and Beneficiary customers who book through Canadian North continue to have access to reduced Pivut fares. As Pivut fares are offered at a substantial discount, this fare is not available on all seats, so it is recommended to book travel well in advance.
