FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                    September 5, 2002
Canadian North Introduces Bold New Look for Airline
Carmen Loberg, President, Canadian North, earlier today unveiled a bold new look for the northern airline. The new logo is a reflection of Canadian North’s northern ownership and encompasses three symbols that are unique to the north: the northern lights, midnight sun and polar bear. Illustrated with rich and vibrant colours, the new symbol embodies the strength, boldness, beauty and promise of the
north and tells a story about the airline’s history, commitment and promise for the future.

The polar bear is used because it thrives in a land where opportunity is gained through hard work, smart thinking and quick action. Like the polar bear, Canadian north is tenacious in meeting challenges of the environment through strength, endurance, fortitude and thoughtful action.

The northern lights and midnight sun depict the beauty, mystery and ever changing nature of the north. This is symbolic of Canadian North’s free moving spirit and willingness to change to better meet the needs of those who fly the northern skies.

There are two bands found in the northern lights. This is a reflection off the people of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. These people are not only a part of the airline’s ownership group but are also the people they serve.

In introducing Canadian North’s new look, Carmen Loberg said: “This new image is more than a logo. It is a statement. It tells of the changes that have made Canadian North a truly northern owned and operated airline.

They’ve introduced many initiatives to the northern market, in particular an innovative new fare structure that reduces the cost of northern flying by lowering airfares and eliminating restrictions, which allows more flexibility for all northern travel. Last minute travellers also benefits from these new initiatives as there is no longer an advance booking requirement.

While Canadian North has operated independently of Canadian International since 1998, this new symbol now reflects their true independence. Canadian North is a member of the NorTerra Group of Companies whose parent corporation, NorTerra Inc., is owned equally by the Inuvialuit Development Corporation representing the Inuvialuit of the Western Arctic and by Nunasi Corporation representing the Inuit of Nunavut.
