June 2002 - Permanently Lower Airfares and No Travel Restrictions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                           June 13, 2002
Permanently lower airfares and no travel restrictions
Carmen Loberg, president, Canadian North, today announced the introduction of an innovative new fare structure that reduces the cost of northern flying by lowering airfares throughout the Canadian North system and eliminating restrictions which allows more flexibility for all northern travel.

An airline industry first, Canadian North’s new pricing structure uses a three tiered approach for all Canadian North routes: a deep discount fare; a value fare; and an extremely competitive full fare. The availability of each fare is based on capacity. Passengers will always be offered the lowest available fare regardless of when they make their reservations. As part of this new pricing policy Canadian North has eliminated all the restrictions associated with air travel including Saturday night stay, advance ticket purchase, change fees and return ticketing.

In introducing the new initiative Carmen Loberg said: “As a northern-owned and operated airline, our mandate is to provide northerners with the most competitive air travel options. Over the last several months we have spent a great deal of time discussing the issues surrounding northern air travel with our corporate and leisure passengers, the travel-trade community and governments. The  overwhelming consensus was for lower fares, particularly for last-minute travel, the elimination of the restrictions and penalties normally associated with air travel and the provision of real value”.

Loberg continued saying; “Our new three-tiered pricing structure is a first in the airline industry. It is an innovative, forward thinking solution to the cost of northern air travel. It is not a temporary initiative but rather it permanently replaces our current pricing policy and will substantially reduce our customer’s air travel costs especially for our full-fare passengers. The elimination of purchase restrictions means every passenger can travel on the lowest fare available. It is simple, fair and far less complicated.”

Kelly Kaylo, Canadian North’s Director of Marketing and Sales, believes the airfare structure will fundamentally lower the cost of doing business in the north. “Our new pricing structure will aid in creating northern business opportunities, increase leisure travel from southern markets and send a clear message to government and business that Canadian North will be an active partner in the development of our northern economy.”

Canadian North will continue their commitment of providing customers with the highest quality of service in the air and on the ground.
