Canadian North’s First Three Inuit Flight Attendants Flying High

Canadian North is proud to announce the employment, training and graduation of its first three Inuit flight attendants.

Based out of Canadian North’s Edmonton gateway, the three -- Gary Philips from Iqaluit, Diane Tiktak from Rankin Inlet, and Elaine Uppahuak from Arivat -- completed their training requirements in October. They have already started gaining hands-on experience working as extra crew on Canadian North's F-28s. In November, they will begin working on the Airline's B 737 aircraft on its trans-arctic routes.

"This is a great accomplishment for Canadian North and the people of Nunavut. We hope these three are the first of many northern residents who choose to make their career with us," says Canadian North’s president, Carmen Loberg. "Canadian North is committed to helping the young people in Nunavut and the NWT realize their dreams."

The three graduates moved to Calgary to take their training.

"It was challenging experience”. Said (insert name of student) “However, the Canadian North team in Calgary and the trainers provided us with a lot of support and encouragement. I am proud to be one of the first Inuit flight attendants working for Canadian North and hope that the three of us can serve as role models for other Inuit who wish to achieve a career in northern aviation”.

As a northern-owned and operated airline, Canadian North offers a variety of exciting opportunities and careers for northerners.

Canadian North is a member of the NorTerra Group of Companies whose parent corporation, NorTerra Inc., is owned equally by the Inuvialuit Development Corporation representing the Inuvialuit of the Western Arctic and by Nunasi Corporation representing the Inuit of Nunavut.
