April 1, 2008 - Canadian North Launches New Service to Seven Baffin Communities
Yellowknife, NT, April 1, 2008
Canadian North is proud to announce that it will begin service to Pangnirtung, Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde
River, Pond Inlet, Igloolik, Hall Beach and Cape Dorset effective April 1, 2008. The new service
uses a dedicated Dash 8-100 combined passenger/freight (Combi) prop aircraft to link these
important Nunavut communities with Iqaluit, Ottawa and the Kitikmeot Region, as well as
Canadian North’s extensive northern network and southern gateways.
“In 1998 the Inuit of Nunavut participated in the purchase of Canadian North with the dream of
providing a higher quality of air travel for all northerners.” said Tracy Medve, President of
Canadian North. “Our expansion into these seven key Baffin communities is taking that dream
one giant step forward.”
The new Baffin schedule includes service to Pond Inlet seven days a week. Igloolik and
Pangnirtung will be served six days a week. Cape Dorset five days a week, Qikiqtarjuaq five days
a week, Clyde River four days a week and Hall Beach two days a week. The schedule also
includes daily service to Ottawa from Iqaluit with earlier departure times to take advantage of an
earlier evening in Ottawa or connections to points beyond – Toronto, St. John’s, etc. In addition
we will connect the Kitikmeot Region with the Baffin three days a week – flying from YFB to
Cambridge Bay via Igloolik, and we’ve increased our frequency between Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit
to five days a week – which means that Canadian North will be the only airline to provide direct
links to all three Nunavut Regions.
“We’re proud to introduce our new Dash 8 aircraft because it allows us to offer the same great inflight
service our customers are accustomed to receiving on our jet aircraft – our award winning
Aurora Class service with hot meals.” said Kelly Kaylo, Vice President of Passenger Product and
Sales. She continued saying, “Customers will benefit from our new everyday lower airfares as
well as special cargo and passenger promotions available throughout the year.”
The flexibility of the Dash 8 Combi aircraft will also ensure the timely and consistent movement of
air cargo throughout the region.
The new service is now available for booking – to book passenger travel go online at
