October 8, 2019 – Your NEW Canadian North arrives Friday, November 1. Learn more about what to expect.

On Friday, November 1, 2019, Canadian North and First Air will combine our existing reservations systems, airport check-in processes and cargo services, launch our unified flight schedule and begin serving you as your NEW Canadian North. Together, we will offer safe, reliable and efficient passenger and cargo service to, from and throughout the North – always with friendly and helpful customer service.

We know that you depend on the essential services we provide, so our priority is to provide a seamless experience while keeping you updated on our progress at every stage of our integration. With this in mind, here is a quick rundown of what you can expect from us in the coming weeks:

From now until Thursday, October 31, 2019, you can continue to book, check in, travel and ship as you always have.

From Friday, November 1, 2019 onwards, we will begin to serve you as the new Canadian North. This means:

  • We will serve you with one website – canadiannorth.com (with a completely redesigned version of this website to be launched on Friday, November 1).
  • You will be able to reach us through a single call centre number – 1.800.267.1247.
  • We will offer unified check-in and shipping processes at our airport and cargo locations.
  • You will have the opportunity to earn Aurora Rewards points each time you fly with us, with the ability to earn Aeroplan Miles for the same travel. It’s free to join Aurora Rewards and takes just moments at aurorarewards.com/join.

September 16, 2019 –Soar even more! Aurora Rewards members can now earn points on First Air-operated flights

Aurora Rewards members can now earn Aurora Rewards points on scheduled flights operated by First Air, in addition to scheduled flights operated by Canadian North. Simply provide your Aurora Rewards member number when booking your flights to be rewarded for your travel.

August 30, 2019 - Introducing our new unified flight schedule, effective Friday, November 1, 2019

We're pleased to announce that our new, unified passenger and cargo schedule is now available for booking and will take effect on Friday, November 1, 2019. Together, we will provide safe, friendly and reliable service to 24 northern communities, from our southern gateways of Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton, with seamless interline connections to destinations throughout Canada, the United States and beyond.

From now until October 31, 2019, all of the flights shown within this unified schedule can be booked via either airline, using our existing reservations channels:

Flights can also be booked in-person at our airport locations as well as through our travel agency partners and other online booking channels.

August 8, 2019 - Summary of Recent Open House Presentations Hosted by Canadian North Executive Leadership Team and Board Members in Iqaluit and Yellowknife

During the week of July 22 to 26, 2019, Canadian Norths Executive Leadership team and members of its Board hosted open house presentations in Iqaluit and Yellowknife, where they provided an update on our integration progress and addressed questions and feedback from attendees.

QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR UPCOMING NEW SCHEDULE


When will your new unified schedule take effect?

This schedule will take effect on Friday, November 1, 2019. All flights shown within it are now available for booking.

How can I book flights within this schedule?

From now until Thursday, October 31, 2019, all of the flights shown within this unified schedule can be booked via either airline, using our existing reservations channels:

Flights can also be booked in-person at our airport locations as well as through our travel agency partners and other online booking channels.

Beginning November 1, 2019, we will offer a unified reservation system. This means that you will be able to book your travel:

How will I know which airline is operating my flight?

  • The airline operating your flight will be identified during the reservations process and on the ticket receipt you receive when your booking is complete.
  • All aircraft within the unified fleet will be eventually painted in the new Canadian North red and white livery with the Inukshuk logo on the tail, to be done gradually throughout the integration process. A decal will also be placed on all rebranded aircraft that are operated by First Air aircraft indicating that it is operated on behalf of Canadian North by First Air.

Where should I check in for my flight?

  • If you are travelling before November 1, 2019, please check-in with the airline that you booked your flight with.
  • If you are travelling on or after Friday, November 1, 2019, you can check-in at any of our airport check-in counters.

The process to combine existing Canadian North and First Air counters into unified Canadian North counters will be completed gradually throughout our network and is slated to begin later this year. We will provide updates as we make progress.

QUESTIONS ABOUT BOOKING AND FLYING WITH US

Will your Call Centre contact info change?

For now, it will continue to be business as usual, with no changes to how you contact us:

Beginning November 1, 2019, we will serve you from a single Canadian North Call Centre number and email address – 1.800.267.1247 | contact@canadiannorth.com.

Have your fare rules and baggage policies changed?

  • No. For now it is business as usual. The fare rules and baggage policies of the airline you purchased your ticket with will continue to apply to your reservation.
  • We will announce future changes to our fare rules and baggage policies as we make progress towards aligning them.

Where should I check in for my flight?

  • If you are travelling before November 1, 2019, please check in with the airline that you booked your flight with.
  • If you are travelling on or after Friday, November 1, 2019, you can check in at any of our airport check-in counters.

The process to combine our existing counters into unified Canadian North counters will be completed gradually throughout our network. We will provide updates as we make progress.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SHIPPING CARGO WITH US


Where should I drop off my freight?

For now, it is business as usual:

  • If you are a Canadian North customers with a contracted rate and/or account, you should continue to drop off your freight at Canadian North cargo offices.
  • If you are a First Air customer with a contracted rate and/or account, you should continue to drop off your freight at First Air cargo offices.
  • If you do not have a contracted rate or account, you can drop off your cargo with either First Air or Canadian North.
  • The process to combine existing Canadian North and First Air cargo offices into unified Canadian North cargo offices will be completed gradually throughout our network, and is slated to begin on November 1, 2019. We will provide updates in advance of any changes.

If I have a contracted cargo rate with Canadian North or First Air, will it be honored on both carriers?

For now, it is business as usual and contracted rates will remain unique to the originating carrier. 

  • Canadian North customers with a contracted rate will need to tender freight at Canadian North cargo locations.
  • First Air customers with a contracted rate will need to tender freight at First Air cargo locations.
  • Customers with contracted rates at both carriers must use the account/contract for the carrier that they are tendering their goods to.

Please note that all shipments, including contracted freight, will have access to shared Canadian North-First Air capacity and can be transferred between carriers to ensure the most efficient handling once the freight enters the shipping processes.

QUESTIONS ABOUT PRICING


Will your pricing be changing?

  • We know that the price of air service is an important concern within the North, so we are committed to always providing the best possible passenger and cargo service at the lowest possible pricing. For the time being, we will continue to offer our respective beneficiary Ilak and Pivut fare products, along with our other existing fare products. We will also continue to maintain our existing corporate agreements, with members of our sales team always available to respond to questions and requests.
  • Eventually, as part of our transition to a fully merged airline, we will introduce new fare products that will be available for purchase throughout our combined scheduled network, including new economy and beneficiary fare classes and corporate pricing. We will also continue to offer seat sales, provide special pricing for groups and events and lend our support to important community initiatives throughout the North.

If I have a corporate passenger or cargo agreement with Canadian North, are there any upcoming changes to it?

  • For the time being, all existing corporate agreements continue to be in effect with no immediate changes. If you have agreements with both carriers you can choose to use the one you prefer. We will be developing a new pricing structure in the future and will communicate updates to our corporate customers when have more information to share. In the meantime, our sales team is always available to respond to questions and requests.

Will beneficiary fares continue to be offered?

  • Yes, we will continue to offer their respective beneficiary Ilak and Pivut fare products for the immediate future, along with their other existing fare products.
  • Eventually, as part of our transition to a fully merged airline, we will introduce new fare products that will be available for purchase throughout our combined scheduled network, including new beneficiary fares.

What is Aurora Rewards?

Aurora Rewards is Canadian North's loyalty rewards program. Aurora Rewards members can earn points for flying with Canadian North and First Air that they can redeem for free Canadian North-operated flights and a great selection of gift cards.

How can I join Aurora Rewards?

It's free to enroll in Aurora Rewards and takes just moments to do at www.aurorarewards.com/join.

How can I earn Aurora Rewards points?

Aurora Rewards members earn points by booking travel on scheduled flights operated by Canadian North or First Air, with points awarded after they have flown.

Aurora Rewards members can also earn points from purchases made with partner retailers - Stanton's, Northwind Petroleum, Bob's Welding (Aklavik and Tuktoyaktuk locations) and Northern Shopper

Can I earn Aurora Rewards on First Air flights?

Yes, as an Aurora Rewards member, you can now earn Aurora Rewards points when you travel on flights operated by First Air on or after Monday, September 16, 2019 (in addition to flights operated by Canadian North). In order to do so, please provide your member number when you book your flight, via our websites, Call Centre, or through your travel agent.

How do I redeem my Aurora Rewards points?

Aurora Rewards members can redeem points for Canadian North-operated flights by contacting our Call Centre:

  • Before November 1, 2019 - 1.800.661.1505.
  • November 1, 2019 onwards - 1.800.267.1247

Aurora Rewards members can also redeem points for gift cards through the Aurora Rewards website at www.aurorarewards.com/travelrewards.php

Can I redeem Aurora Rewards points for First Air-operated flights?

Between now and October 31, 2019, Aurora Rewards members can redeem points towards the following flights:

  • Canadian North-operated flights
  • First Air-operated flights, for travel on or after November 1, 2019

Beginning November 1, 2019, Aurora Rewards members will be able to redeem points towards any of the scheduled flights we operate.

Can I also earn and redeem Aeroplan Miles on flights operated by the merged airline?

As an Aurora Rewards member, you can also earn Aeroplan Miles and Aurora Rewards for the same travel, as long as you have added your Aeroplan member number to your Aurora Rewards member profile and provide your Aurora Rewards or Aeroplan member number when you make your booking. You can sign in to access your Aurora Rewards member profile at www.aurorarewards.com/signin.php.

I currently hold Aurora Concierge status. Will I receive my Aurora Concierge benefits when I travel on First Air-operated flights?

Not yet. We're working on developing a comprehensive loyalty rewards and recognition program for the new Canadian North, with Aurora Concierge benefits provided on all First Air and Canadian North-operated flights. Until then, Aurora Concierge benefits are only available on Canadian North-operated flights. We look forward to providing more updates soon, so please stay tuned.
